KLABF Was a Blast This Year! 💥
This year’s KLABF was an incredible experience for us! It has been a challenging yet fulfilling year as we ventured into new and unfamiliar territories, stepping away from our usual practices. With that came many firsts:
✨ First time showcasing collaborations with various artists.
✨ First time launching our books through sharing sessions.
✨ First time creating pop-up postcards.
✨ First time making flip-book animations.
This time, we also introduced two new forms of works:
Nezha-themed Works from our collective Risograph exhibition, Riso: A Beautiful Mess. These works explore the theme of Nezha’s lotus rebirth through innovative formats like animation flipbooks, stickers, and pop-up postcards.
5 New Collaborative Zines with talented artists:
- Right to Housing by Ee Von – A thoughtful zine that explores the concept of communal living and social housing, drawing from real-life architectural insights.
- Mating Season by 7xyuan – A playful yet introspective zine exploring the complexities and humor of modern dating culture.
- Nightly Adventures by Marlis – A mystical journey with a three-eyed cat as it navigates strange nocturnal happenings.
- The Little Grateful Things in Life by Quincee – A heartwarming zine celebrating the everyday joys and small moments of gratitude.
- A Tale of A Girl and A Star by Meepancake – A moving story of hope and resilience, following a girl and a star as they create a new world together.
The event itself saw significant improvements from last year, with better-curated booths and a more spacious layout for vendors and visitors. This allowed us to interact with more people, hear valuable feedback, and share our passion for independent publishing. We loved seeing the audience’s reactions as they explored our works, and we’re excited to channel their input into creating even better publications that support the local art scene.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended our sharing session! It was our first time promoting our works in this way, and honestly, we were very nervous. Your interest, questions, and encouragement made it a truly rewarding experience for us.
A memorable highlight was being seated next to Du Bút Books, an indie comics publisher from Vietnam. Our conversations about the publishing scenes in our respective countries, as well as the joys and challenges of creating art, were incredibly inspiring. These interactions remind us why we do what we do—to connect, create, and inspire.
To everyone who stopped by our booth, gave us feedback, attended our session, or simply said hello—thank you for making this event special. You’ve motivated and inspired us to push forward and bring even better work next year.
See you again soon! 🌟
