KL Illustration Fair 2026 happened over some past May weekend, and just like last year, the halls were packed from start to finish. This year’s edition reportedly welcomed over 20,000 visitors — a huge milestone that shows just how much the local illustration scene continues to grow.

A Thoughtful New Addition
One particularly memorable addition this year was the publication of a KLIF artist directory book, compiling all participating artists and studios into a single volume.
It felt like a thoughtful and lasting way to archive the event beyond the weekend itself, not only as a collectible for visitors, but also as a practical platform for companies and collaborators to discover artists more easily. A small but genuinely meaningful touch that made this year’s edition feel even more special.

A Healthy Rotation Within the Community
Something else we noticed this year was the generosity within the community itself. Many artists who previously exhibited in the Art Room showcase last year chose to take regular art booths this time around, allowing newer artists the opportunity to experience the Art Room format instead.
It created a healthy sense of rotation and openness within the scene, giving more people the chance to be seen and discovered.
Reaching Beyond the Creative Bubble
We also noticed a larger presence of non-creative visitors this year, people outside of the illustration and design bubble who came simply out of curiosity or interest.
That, to us, is one of the most encouraging signs of all. Events like KLIF are no longer just gatherings for artists speaking to other artists; they are becoming cultural spaces capable of pulling wider audiences into the local art ecosystem.
That kind of visibility is incredibly important for the sustainability of independent illustration and publishing.

From Small Gathering to Local Art Giant
What started as a relatively small event has steadily grown into something of a local art giant. Alongside that growth, we’ve seen more artists getting freelance opportunities, collaborations, publishing deals, and broader recognition for their work.
The community is expanding, and so are the possibilities within it.
Here’s to many more years of KLIF.
We’re glad to be part of this movement.
